Beaconsfield<\/h2>\n

Los muchos compromisos, la fren\u00e9tica actividad literaria, period\u00edstica y p\u00fablica, pero, sobre todo, la atm\u00f3sfera bohemia y desmesurada alrededor de las tabernas, pubs y restaurantes de Fleet Street llevaron Frances, en 1909, a trasladarse con Gilbert del domicilio de Battersea a Beaconsfield. Esta villa a unos 40 kil\u00f3metros al noroeste de Londres est\u00e1 conectada por ferrocarril con la City. Chesterton hac\u00eda el trayecto en tren desde Beaconsfield Station hasta la estaci\u00f3n londinense de Marylebone. Alquilaron una casa, Overroads, y posteriormente adquirieron la parcela de delante. Primero construyeron un gran estudio donde celebraban fiestas en Navidad con los hijos de sus amigos. El a\u00f1o 1922 se trasladaron a la nueva casa, Top Meadow, anexa al estudio. Ese mismo a\u00f1o, en la sala del hotel Railway, se convirti\u00f3 formalmente al catolicismo. La aportaci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica de los Chesterton hizo posible la construcci\u00f3n de St. Teresa\u2019s Catholic Church en Beaconsfield. En el Shephers Lane Cemetery de esta villa est\u00e1n enterrados juntos Gilbert, Frances y su ahijada Dorothy Collins que fue su \u00faltima secretaria.<\/p>\n

Fleet Street<\/p><\/div>\n

La ciudad de Londres est\u00e1 estrechamente vinculada a la vida y a la obra de Chesterton: su barrio de la ni\u00f1ez Campden Hill y los dos hogares familiares de Sheffield Terrace y Warwick Gardens, en Kensington, donde vivi\u00f3 hasta que se cas\u00f3. Overstrand Mansions<\/em>, en Battersea, fue su domicilio de casado hasta que se trasladaron con Frances a Beaconsfield. Fleet Street, sede de las redacciones de los principales diarios londinenses, era el lugar donde Gilbert pasaba todo el d\u00eda, leyendo, escribiendo y discutiendo con amigos y periodistas en las tabernas o pubs. Otros lugares muy frecuentados son los teatros, salas, iglesias y asociaciones literarias, culturales o religiosas donde participaba en conferencias, meetings, actos y debates. Inglaterra<\/h2>\n

Chesterton viaj\u00f3 mucho por su pa\u00eds. Desde las vacaciones familiares con sus padres durante su adolescencia, de casado con Frances, hasta los compromisos de actividades p\u00fablicas para dar conferencias y participar en debates, as\u00ed como su presencia en actos p\u00fablicos, meetings, campa\u00f1as electorales pol\u00edticas o elecciones a rector universitario, lo llevaron a recorrer gran parte del territorio ingl\u00e9s. Gilbert tambi\u00e9n viaj\u00f3 a ciudades importantes de Inglaterra para el despliegue y la actividad de la Distributist League. Visit\u00f3 en varias ocasiones Irlanda y Escocia.<\/p>\n

Catalu\u00f1a<\/h2>\n

Chesterton realiz\u00f3 dos estancias en Catalu\u00f1a, de car\u00e1cter muy diferente. La primera, en mayo de 1926, organizada por la secci\u00f3n catalana del PEN Club, es la oficial, la m\u00e1s importante. Tuvo una notable repercusi\u00f3n en la prensa y en los c\u00edrculos culturales y literarios de la \u00e9poca, y una destacada presencia en la ciudad de Barcelona: en la Universidad, en el Ateneo, en los caf\u00e9s, en los quioscos y librer\u00edas, en la Rambla. La segunda, en1935, que tambi\u00e9n tuvo lugar en primavera, es una estancia para descansar, refugiado en Sitges para disfrutar del paisaje mediterr\u00e1neo, escribir, pasear, y olvidarse por unas semanas de los innumerables compromisos que lo abrumaban.<\/p>\n

Viajes<\/h2>\n

A lo largo de su vida Chesterton hizo muchos viajes, tanto por Inglaterra como en el extranjero. Se pueden agrupar de tres maneras: Los viajes familiares y de car\u00e1cter privado que van desde su adolescencia, durante las vacaciones de verano por varios lugares de Inglaterra, continuando con los viajes con su padre Edward a Francia y a Italia y, ya casado, viajando con Frances y Dorothy Collins. El segundo grupo comprende los viajes relacionados con su actividad p\u00fablica por Inglaterra, Irlanda y Escocia. Incluyen conferencias, actos, debates, meetings, elecciones a rector universitario, campa\u00f1as electorales pol\u00edticas, el despliegue de la Distributist League y Congresos religiosos.
